He revolutionized 20th century photography in a powerful way,
leaving a contemporary mark on the fashion image. Fashion
with which Richard Avedon forged a deep bond by immortali-
zing the Versace brand in the eighties and nineties. Some of the
most iconic shots - 106 to be precise, taken from the extensive
collection of the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) in Tuc-
son - of his sixty-year career are exhibited at the Palazzo Reale
in Milan in the exhibition “Richard Avedon. Relationship” until
next January 29th. The secret of his powerful photography? It
all lies in the relationships - as the title of the exhibition suggests,
and not surprisingly - which after a first part dedicated to great
portraits, reviews the hundreds of covers that the American pho-
tographer shot for Vogue, focusing on the world of fashion. The
iconic Nastassja Kinski nude wrapped in a snake gives the glan-
ce: “You can have a dif erent look even in front of images seen
and reviewed and notice, for example, the perfection of Avedon
in a striking but minimalist photo like that of Kinski, to see how
the curve of the elbow exactly matches that of the reptile’s body ”, ADYTON
explains curator Rebecca A. Senf.
